Battle Kitten Fan Art

Battle Kittens, a creation of Rebecca Dart, are these incredibly awesome, hefty, barbarian women who ride around on giant kittens and answer to no one. She put up these super sweet watercolors on her tumblr and I couldn't resist drawing up a Battle Kitten Woman for myself. You can see Rebecca's Battle Kitten's here: http://r-dart.tumblr.com/ and here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/rebeccadart/

Guard

For my Charlie Ironpaw comic I've been working on developing the past few years.

Page 4

The epic conclusion, and one of my favorite kinds of endings: everyone dies. You don't see it too often, probably because it's sad. But every once and awhile: why not?

Over the past few months I've made a lot of progress with a couple different projects and should have some good stuff to post soon.

The Aspidocelone

I feel bad for neglecting the blog recently. It's been a busy few weeks. I badly rolled my ankle playing soccer last week and have had to keep my foot elevated all week to get the swelling down to a somewhat normal size. Unfortunately it's hard to draw on your stomach with your foot in the air (I got carpet burns on my elbows trying- another reason to learn how to draw with your whole arm rather then your wrist). Now that it is mostly green instead of mostly purple I've been able to ditch the crutches and sit at a desk again. In addition to the ankle, the two projects I've been working on are both long term and not yet blog worthy, although the one ( another comic) should in a few months.

This is a part of a four page comic I did a few years ago. It's based on a picture book I created during a book making class in college. I'm re-writing it again as a young adult book in the limited spare time I have and while I'm unsure if I'll finish it any time soon/if ever, it's still a story I really enjoy. So here's page 1, I'll put up a page each Monday over the next three weeks until the stories finished and hopefully I'll have something new after that.

B/W with Brush

Just a brush this time. I have to say I was pretty pleased with the results. I think all the work I did with the thicker brush pen helped me out when it came to the smaller #1 brush. The line is still a little shaky but its coming along. This is one of the few Ironpaw drawings I've done that I think holds up well in just black and white. Too often I use color to cover up bad design decisions.

Ryu-Chu vs E. Snonda

Mash ups are pretty over done these days but I couldn't resist. Two of my favorite Nintendo games.

Spinosaurus?

This is a sketch from a couple weeks ago. I believe it's called either a spine or a spikosaurus, can't remember though.

Some Weasleys

I was looking through my sketch book last night when I came across an old sketch I had done of Mad Eye Moody. Started drawing some Weasleys and took the best of the sketches(Percy and Arthur and colored them in. I'll post the Mad eye at some point. This was probably the fastest coloring job I've ever done so you'll have to excuse the sloppiness. Back to work.

Color Testing

Testing out some brushes and trying to find the right look for coloring my comic. I have a lot more prep to do before I start (not to mention finishing my children's book)and tests like these help me determine the right direction to move in.

Angry DIno

Sketched out this guy and decided to break out the crow tip pen to ink it. Really enjoyed the way it turned out. I'm trying to maintain patience with the brush pen but it's certainly hard to do. Color is also my friend, not so good with just black and white.

Page 2

Here's the second page (spread) of the children's book I've been working on. Took forever. 4 spreads left, then I can work on the cover and spot illustrations.

Christmas Card

Last year I sent out a postcard to all my friends. I'm terrible about keeping in touch with people so I made this postcard my way of at least saying hi once a year. This was the Christmas 2011 version.
