Moleskin

I am awful at working on one thing straight through. I get bored with a project very easily, especially once I feel i've conquered my technique for either the character or the technique. So i jump around from project to project alot. When I to get determined to do a project (like this comic for the post) i put all other projects on hold and it drives me insane. My moleskin is my escape, i don't feel guilty sketching in that when I should be working. These two characters lead to another project idea, the stack continues to grow, one day, one will be finished.

Braveheart

I picked up a pencil after watching Braveheart. I'm pretty sure I shoulda known this would happen. I'd like to see him fight the wind prince (MICA inside joke).

Comic 4

This is the second doctor gag. I like where the characters expressions and body motions are going. I think i'm still lacking in things like my handwriting and emotions with the type. Two more to go. Maybe one day i'll do the rest of the doctor ones, the best ones were further down the line.

Comic 3

I wrote a whole string of these doctor gags. Unfortunately the post only requires 6 strips and I think it's more important to show a variety rather then the same string so I could only finished two of the doctor strips, this is the first.

Second Comic

This is comic number two. Hopefully it explains a bit about these alien folk. I must say i'm getting tired of this project already and wanna go back to the elephants. I'm determined to finish though.

One More Time

The more I looked at and thought about the first comic I did the more I hated it. I decided that it wasn't something I wanted my name attached to. I didn't like the inking, the backgrounds, and overall I just didnt' think it looked professional. I decided to bump up the size I worked on and had another go. I must say I'm pleased with the result and feel I can move on now.

First Strip

Here's the first strip I've done for The Invasion. I'm pretty happy with it. It's been awhile since i've done a comic strip. I need to keep working to get a looser feel for the quill tip pen and my handwriting needs some work but it'll come. So will more strips. Also, you may have noticed that the bird guy has been replaced. That is because I was looking at the bird guy and I realized that the character was just a bird and was supposed to be an alien. Now it's an alien. Lemme know what you think.

Final Design?

The title has a question mark because it's hard to see a design as finalized in such a short span of time. Theres always room for changes and improvements. I'd love to hear thoughts from anyone who reads this on what they think or what they'd change. I'm going to start working on the actual strip soon so heads up for those. This is my testing ground.

Character Development

These are two pages out of my moleskin I used to develop the three characters I'd like to use for the Washington Post Contest. It was challenging to come up with three different characters with three different personalities in such a short span of time. It felt good to be challenged though and I enjoyed myself. I'm pretty happy with the final product which you can see above.

The Invasion

These characters are for a cartoon strip contest the washington post is having. They are in their early stages and i'm just trying to figure out their personalities a bit. More to come.

Max

For those of you that don't know Max or haven't seen him in awhile, this is a quick little drawing of Max.

Page 6-7

Heres another spread for Elephant Planet. Soak it in, I'm switching gears. I'll be working on Max's Monsters, an old classic, for a little bit seeing what I can do with my new style to an old project. From pink elephants to hairy monsters, brace yourselves.

It's been awhile

Haven't posted in awhile so I'm putting up a couple things from a new sketchbook that relate to a different project.
